Friends of Medicine Sweep Legislative Races by the FMA

Friends of Medicine sweep FMA legislative races – Florida Hospital News and Healthcare Report

November 9, 2022 – Friends of Medicine won overwhelming success in Tuesday’s general election, with nearly 97% of FMA PAC-endorsed legislative candidates winning their statewide races. Of 91 legislative races in which the FMA PAC has made endorsements, 88 PAC-backed candidates have been victorious. Specifically, FMA PAC-endorsed candidates have won 24 of 25 Florida Senate races and 64 of 66 Florida House races. Our success in electing pro-medicine candidates depends on the support of physicians, so invest in the future of your profession by joining the FMA PAC today!

Strong points

  • For the first time since Reconstruction, a Republican candidate has claimed victory in the state Senate district that includes Tallahassee/Leon County: Florida State University football legend Corey Simon, who was endorsed by the FMA PAC, defeated incumbent Democratic Senator Loranne Ausley in the Senate. District 3 race.
  • FMA friend Sen. Janet Cruz sadly lost her race to Republican Jay Collins in Tampa Bay Area Senate District 12.
  • Medicine friend Karen Pittman, married to former FMA PAC President Chris Pittman, MD, won the House District 65 seat. She will be a great advocate for Florida doctors and patients.
  • With FMA PAC-endorsed nominee Joel Rudman, MD elected to the Panhandle’s House District 3 seat, there will be two physicians in the Florida House of Representatives. Dr. Rudman joins our good friend Rep. Ralph Massullo, MD, who won re-election in House District 23.
